Garage Door Panel Replacement
The preferred choice would be to replace the damaged panel(s) with exact duplicates ordered from the factory. If the door is fairly new, this can be done. On older homes, the garage doors can present a challenge; the same pattern may no longer be available. In that situation, we can try to find a close match to meet the needs of a budget-conscious homeowner, although we don't recommend this as a solution, because an "exact" match may not be possible.
If an exact match can't be found to replace a damaged panel, the best choice is to replace all the old panels with new ones. The homeowner's insurance policy may cover the cost and the result will be an overhead door that has a clean, new, fresh look that will last for decades to come. It's often feasible to re-use some, if not all, of the original hardware and fittings, giving the homeowner the look of a brand-new garage door for just the cost of the panels and installation.
In a situation in which the panels are going to be completely replaced, that's the time to decide whether the new panels should be fabricated from metal or fiberglass and if having built-in insulation is a worthwhile expense. Extra insulation can make a real difference in the way the garage feels, especially if it is also going to be used as a workspace for hobbies.
